Technical Questions

  • Does a qualified signature have the same legal force as a traditional signature?

Yes, in the entire European Union (and beyond), a qualified electronic certificate has the same legal force, with all the consequences arising from it.

  • What is the difference between a qualified and an unqualified signature?

  • An unqualified signature can be used everywhere, but only a qualified signature provides legal assurance (such as a traditional signature).

  • What are time stamps?

  • The qualified time stamping service allows for the precise determination of the date of actions performed in an electronic environment, as well as any data in electronic form. Thus, it enables the confirmation of the time an electronic signature was made, or determining that a certain document existed at a specific time and was not changed. Under the provisions of current law, this has the effect of a certain date.

  • In the case of purchasing a Time Stamp, it is inserted into the seal from the time server of the Trusted Service Provider; otherwise, if a Time Stamp is not purchased, it is taken from the computer on which the document is signed.

  • Can the signature include a position, function (e.g., Translator), company name?

  • It can, but this limits the use of the signature rather than expanding its functionality. It can then only be used for that purpose and is not recommended. The signature is not to demonstrate function/capabilities but is an electronic signature with full legal force.
